The
Elmton
Struthers, OH
(Casual Dining)

The Elmton, owned by
Jack and Marianne Walters, is the recipient of a Golden
Chicken Award. The Elmton was nominated by Charles Griffiths of C.J.S. Sales in New
Castle, Pennsylvania, the authorized Broaster distributor in that
area.
Originally
established in 1945
by Jack's father, Jack has turned the Elmton into one of the town's
dining landmarks. The Elmton is currently the third oldest
business in Struthers, Ohio.
Initially, The
Elmton served only soups, sandwiches, and homemade pizza.
Genuine Broaster ChickenŽ was introduced to the menu in 1958, and
the popularity of that and other foods cooked in the
Broaster pressure fryer was instantanteous. Since 1958,
weekly volume for the Elmton has averaged 400 Broaster ChickenŽ dinners,
800-900 pounds of BroasterŽ Wings and 800-1,000 homemade pizzas.
"We use only the breast, leg, and thigh in our
dinners, so you aren't paying for less meaty parts. If
customers order our wings, they get the whole wing, and five whole wings
make a meal. Friday is BroasterŽ Fish, served with macaroni
and cheese and our special coleslaw," says Jack.
The durability of
Broaster equipment is well known to Jack and Marianne. The
Broaster Company manufactured power marinator they purchased many years ago is still the
workhorse of the marination process. The three BroasterŽ
pressure fryers have been updated to model 1800's in recent times.
The Elmton has found
a great recipe for success and Genuine Broaster ChickenŽ has been
an important ingredient. "Many of our customers are
fourth generation customers, a tradition we hope to continue for
many more years," adds Jack proudly.
