Beetle's
Broaster ChickenŽ
Newport, TN
(Carry-Out)

Beetle and
Lillie Strange started cooking Genuine Broaster ChickenŽ in 1963
when they
went to work for a restaurant in Newport, Tennessee. In 1968 they purchased the restaurant
and continued to operate it for thirteen more years. Due to highway construction, they were forced to close
the business; however, this did not stop them from cooking Broaster ChickenŽ. They worked the next two years
at the Lakeland Country Club where they continued cooking this delicious
product.
In 1983, they
decided to refurbish a small building on
the Knoxville highway in the small community of Reidtown, about
five miles west of Newport, Tennessee. Today, they continue to cook
and sell Broaster ChickenŽ and BroasterŽ Potatoes.
All of their
business is carry-out and cooked to order. "We have
done everything the BroasterŽ way for over 30 years," Lillie
said. "Our chicken is marinated, hand coated, and
cooked in the Broaster pressure fryer. Last year we sold
over 100,000 pieces of Broaster ChickenŽ, all cooked to
order."
Lillie says, "Broaster ChickenŽ has been
very good to us. We were able to raise a family of four and
put our children through college. We plan to be cooking
Broaster ChickenŽ the rest of our lives."
Beetle's
Broaster ChickenŽ has become a regional dining experience.
Customer come from as far away as Ashville, North Carolina and
Knoxville, Tennessee, as well as all points in between. Many annual
vacationers make it a part of their trip to buy Broaster ChickenŽ
at Beetles.
