The Broaster Company, a leading manufacturer and supplier of foodservice equipment, fresh and frozen foods, and branded food programs, presented Nonna’s Family Restaurant & Catering Company with its Golden Chicken Award in a ceremony held at the restaurant. The Golden Chicken award is presented by The Broaster Company to a select number of foodservice operators across the country that have shown exemplary merchandising skills in the promotion and sale of Genuine Broaster Chicken®, the company’s signature product.
Nonna’s, located at 4508 West Main in Belleville, IL, is owned by Chris Mayer, a hard-working entrepreneur who started this successful restaurant and catering business in September of 2001. Chris is a huge fan of Broaster Chicken®. “The chicken’s popularity continues to grow, not only for our restaurant business, but it’s a popular catering choice for customers”, say Chris. “Recent Broaster carry-out orders have ranged from 300-500 pieces of chicken,” he adds.
Chris and his dedicated employees continue to educate customers about Broaster Chicken® by letting them know that Nonna’s Genuine Broaster Chicken® is marinated overnight, then coated with special seasonings and pressure fried in Canola oil, resulting in chicken that’s more moist and flavorful with less fat and fewer calories.
In addition to offering other traditional American fare such as Top Round of Beef au jus, Pork Chops, and Seafood, Nonna’s also prepares authentic Italian dishes using recipes originally perfected by Chris’ grandmother in Italy. Nonna’s is also famous for their house salad and dressing, prepared with fresh ingredients.
Nonna’s prides themselves on their prompt and efficient service partnered with great tasting food. Two key ingredients to Nonna’s success are Chris Mayer and his great employees. Manager, Trisha Mister, comments: “Chris is a great guy to work for; people want to work for him because it’s clear he loves what he’s doing and that he has a great level of enthusiasm with customers and employees, which is contagious.” “Chefs Michael Clay and Atta Taylor do an excellent job to ensure that Genuine Broaster Chicken is always fresh and delicious,” she adds.
With the delicious foods they offer, as recognized by their regular patrons, and now formally by The Broaster Company, the future is bright for this friendly, small town favorite.
