The Broaster Company, a leading manufacturer and supplier of foodservice equipment, fresh and frozen foods, and branded food programs, presented Frank & Helen’s Pizzeria in St. Louis, Missouri, with its Golden Chicken Award in a ceremony held at the restaurant.  The Golden Chicken award is presented by The Broaster Company to a select number of foodservice operators across the country that have shown exemplary merchandising skills in the promotion and sale of Genuine Broaster Chicken®, the company’s signature product.

Frank & Helen’s, located at 8111 Olive Boulevard in St. Louis, is a successful restaurant established in 1956 and now owned by Scott DePolito, who purchased the business in 1997 from the second owner.  Scott, at the time a University City police officer with a wife and two young children, was looking for a new adventure and a safer career.  Although Scott had little restaurant experience, he had the benefit of having the help and support of his family, some of whom own and operate Crown Candy.  He also benefits by being the only restaurant in the St. Louis area that serves Crown Candy ice cream, a local favorite.

Frank & Helen’s specializes in both pizza and Broaster Chicken®.  Both items are huge hits with customers, and surprisingly, the popular restaurant’s sales volume for Broaster Chicken® now equals that of its namesake pizza!  Scott DePolito says Frank and Helen’s regular customers know exactly what they want as soon as they come in the door: “It’s either pizza or Broaster Chicken®.  Sometimes customers say they’re going to try something new, but they always seem to go back to their favorites”, he adds.

Scott credits Frank and Helen’s success with Genuine Broaster Chicken® to his loyal employees, who strictly follow preparation procedures prescribed by The Broaster Company and cook the product in a Broaster® pressure fryer.  Frank & Helen’s is supported in this effort by Midwest Equipment Company Inc. of Fenton, MO, their authorized Broaster Distributor.  Julie Boyer from Midwest works with Scott to ensure his new employees get training for the overnight soak marinating process, which gives Broaster Chicken its unique flavor and allows use of a lighter breading, which results in a fraction of the carbs and fewer calories and less fat than other types of chicken.  That’s made it a big hit with Frank and Helen’s customers as well.

To keep up with the demand, Scott cooks with two Broaster® pressure fryers in his kitchen, which can produce 400 pieces of fresh Genuine Broaster Chicken every hour!

With the delicious foods they offer, as recognized by their regular patrons, and now formally by The Broaster Company, the future is bright for this long established independent restaurant.
