The Broaster Company, a leading manufacturer and supplier of foodservice equipment, fresh and frozen foods, and branded food programs, presented Georgetown Centre Inc. in Pleasant Hills, PA, with its Golden Chicken Award in a ceremony held at the restaurant.  The Golden Chicken award is presented by The Broaster Company to a select number of foodservice operators across the country that have shown exemplary merchandising skills in the promotion and sale of Genuine Broaster Chicken®, the company’s signature product.

Georgetown Centre Inc., a successful banquet and catering facility with the capability of seating 450 patrons for weddings, banquets, and other special events, is located at 526 East Bruceton Road in Pleasant Hills.  Les George, the operation’s owner, attributes Georgetown’s success to not only offering top quality foods like Genuine Broaster Chicken®, but also to the 35 committed employees involved in the day-to-day operation, including Margie Potts, Event Coordinator, and Bill Balas, Kitchen Director, who have been with him for over 30 years.

Les became familiar with Broaster in 1996 through his father, also a restaurant owner who learned of Broaster from trade publications.  Upon further investigation, Les knew that he wanted to have Broaster® equipment in his facility.  He also knew that he wanted to offer Genuine Broaster Chicken® on his menu, a branded product which requires following a time proven recipe using proprietary marinades and coatings – a 50-year-old formula for success used by over 5,000 licensed Broaster operators nationwide.  To make this decision a reality, Les contacted Chuck and Lynn Griffiths at CJS Sales in New Castle, PA, the authorized Broaster distributor serving western Pennsylvania and the surrounding Tri-State area.

CJS Sales trained Les and his staff in the proper procedures for marinating the chicken overnight, breading it, and cooking it in the Broaster® pressure fryer, an unbeatable combination that makes Genuine Broaster Chicken® moist, juicy, and flavorful, right down to the bone.  Georgetown’s head production manager, Rodney Hammonds, and Bill Balas monitor those procedures daily to ensure that the final product is always of the highest quality.  As a result, Genuine Broaster Chicken® has become one of Georgetown’s most popular menu choices, included as a Sunday buffet item every week and ordered for in-house banquets and off-site catered events such as school functions, church events, and their corporate-delivered lunch program.  Because much of Broaster® Chicken’s unique flavor results from the marinating process, use of a lighter breading is possible, resulting in a fraction of the carbs and fewer calories and less fat than other types of fried chicken.  That’s made it a big hit with hospitals as well.

To keep up with the demand, Les purchased his second Broaster pressure fryer in June.  With two pressure fryers now in place, Georgetown has the capacity to produce 400 pieces of fresh Genuine Broaster Chicken every hour!

With the delicious foods they offer, as recognized by their regular patrons, and now formally by The Broaster Company, the future is bright for this friendly, small town favorite.
