The Broaster Company, a leading manufacturer and supplier of foodservice equipment, fresh and frozen foods, and branded food programs, presented Sav-A-Step #50 in Louisville, with its Golden Chicken Award in a ceremony held at the convenience store.  The Golden Chicken award is presented by The Broaster Company to a select number of foodservice operators across the country that have shown exemplary merchandising skills in the promotion and sale of Genuine Broaster Chicken®, the company’s signature product.

Sav-A-Step #50, located at 9260 Smyrna Road in Louisville, has been serving Genuine Broaster Chicken® since the first day the operation opened in 1991.  Don Buckner, the owner of this Sav-A-Step market, turns on the store’s model 1800 Broaster® pressure fryer each morning at 4 a.m. and almost immediately starts selling Broaster® Recipe hot wings to an eager group of early morning customers.  At 7 p.m. the Broaster® fryer is turned off, after satisfying a steady stream of customers throughout the day with a variety of pressure-fried products including Genuine Broaster Chicken®, Broaster® Recipe chicken tenders, and their unique potato wedges coated with Broaster’s Spicy Country Coating.

“The Broaster program has been very helpful in developing foot traffic in our store,” says Don.  “There’s been a steady increase over the years.”  That steady traffic has led to a following of loyal customers – some of whom continue to make significant commutes long after they have moved out of the area just to purchase Don’s Genuine Broaster Chicken.  “They often call ahead so that it can be ready for their pick-up when they arrive,” Don adds.  Additionally, Sav-A-Step’s reputation for delicious chicken has spread to nearby schools, which place 100 to 200 piece orders with them several times each school year.

Stokers of Kentucky, the authorized Broaster distributor located in Louisville, KY, provides sales and service of Broaster® products to the operation, which currently  cooks up as many as 10 cases of Broaster® fresh premarinated chicken per week.
